In Loving Memory of Ravi Zacharias (1946 – 2020)
Ravi Zacharias travelled to countless countries around the world to bring a message that addressed the deep questions of God, apologetics, morality, life, and meaning. He masterfully challenged an entire generation to think deeply about the human condition and what it means to be a Christian. We will all miss Ravi greatly! Many of us know Ravi from his many penetrating books addressing a variety of apologetic and cultural issues of our day. As a gifted orator using steady logic, Ravi mesmerized us as he crafted his message in ways the masses could understand and whole-heartedly embrace. His ministry equipped millions internationally through his Ravi Zacharias International Ministries (RZIM) founded in 1984. As a former student and close friend of our cofounder, Dr. Norman Geisler, Ravi was always a gracious and very generous man with VIU. Whenever we called upon him for a conference, instruction, counsel or publishing endeavors, he always made himself available despite his busy schedule. In addition, his crucial support of VIU was vital in the founding of our school in 2008, always offering wise counsel and making the learning experience much richer than it would have been. Further, Ravi was also a close confidant for Dr. Geisler, offering him sage-like advice on numerous occasions in dealing with life’s challenging moments. After connecting with Ravi in dealing with these challenges, Dr. Geisler would always say that he was “brilliant” and had the heart of a “peacemaker”. These two characteristics of head and heart perfectly characterized his ministry for nearly 50 years! We, together with a grateful Christian body of believers, mourn the passing of this great man God used to reach a generation of skeptics and hard to reach intellectuals. Thank you, Ravi, for being a generous friend, advancing Christian apologetics, and fusing the head and the heart together in your ministry to the world! Ravi is survived by his wife, Margie and three grown children Naomi, Nathan, and Sarah.
